ok, I agree the price is high. but wouldn't it be an interesting addition to a collection on the condition that the documents were authenticated? Especially stating Nickel finish, as claimed in the ad?

I have read on several occassions of nickle guns, by official means. There is a comment about some presentation Lugers for the US Test guns and then some presentation ones for high ranking officials in Germany during the war.

All rumours and who knows?

Of course, sitting in some guys "shooting" safe is a real presentation nickled Luger that everyone assumes was done by some returning Vet, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I bought one of these .38 Gold Cups about 1972, paid about $125. Great gun but I shot it about 40,000 rounds and it wouldn't group anymore. Sold it in about 1980 for $500 (it still looked new).

Today - these go for about $800 - $1600, depending on condition - when you can find them. Great shooters..!! In fact, probably better then the S&W 52-1 or 52-2. Anyway - until reading this thread, I was going to shoot it. Now, though......

I'll probably have it chrome-dipped, install a set of grips with a "hammer & sickle", and put it on an Auction site as "RECENTLY DISCOVERED IN A LOST WAREHOUSE IN SIBERIA - Khrushchev's PERSONAL Colt. FROM WHEN HE VISITED THE COLT FACTORY, AFTER THE COLD WAR. THIS WAS A SECRET TRIP, SO IT WAS NEVER DOCUMENTED IN HISTORY....""... As for paperwork - I'm sure I can come up with something... :D

I actually had one of those in 1975... Paid about the same as Al Eggers... and believe it or not, it WAS nickle plated. Boy could that piece shoot!

I traded it for a brand new steel frame combat commander and some cash which was used to have Lewis W. Seecamp turn the Commander into the .45 Double-action that I posted a photo of some time back. I still have that baby... it has been a faithful companion.

Don't think I would give it up, but I might trade it for a .45 caliber Luger. Trade even of course! :D

BTW, I didn't realize that you could use an animated GIF file for an avatar. That one is great! I will have to use my imagination to come up with a new one in my SPARE time. :D

Simply beautiful!!! The S&W 52-1 and 52-2 are outstanding firearms - and I've had several, and all were simply excellent shooters. When S&W announced they were ceasing production, I picked up one of the last the local dealer was able to acquire. After many thousands of rounds, I finally sold it for almost as I paid for it when I got my first Colt Mid-Range.

I agree - the WC firearms (either the Colt or the S&W) are getting tough to come by - and the prices keep going up... And they are terrific to shoot. There is something about shooting an accurized .38 WC automatic - no other automatic quite feels the same....

Also - John S. - you had a nickel plated Mid-Range??! And I was just kidding in my note about about the "Khrushchev Special"... Sheesssh - you were half-way home on that one..!!! :D

Years ago I had a S&W M52/38WC and a spare M39/9mm top. It worked fine with both calibers. Tom H.
