Early 1940 Style Black Widow Grips
Here's a 1940 Luger with the "early" coarse checkered black plastic grips:

Hello Aaron,
I believe I will jump right on that one. I love the stories people tell to sell things. I bet the grips are worth at least $500. |
Those grips look suspiciously like the East European bogus grips on my first "Black Widow."

These Russian plastic grips actually make great substitute grips if you want to shoot your luger. They have great gripping surface--so rough it bites your skin. They are also cheap, having little value. I bought a pair for about $2 a few years back. Too bad the original grips are missing on this otherwise nice looking 1940 P08.

Look at the safety bar which disappears when the safety lever is operated. It's not supposed to be blued, but looks to me like it is. I doubt the blue is "original" as the seller claims.

I spotted this one yesterday and came to the same conclusion as Luke and Craig. If the safety lever is indeed in the white, it may not be too bad, but it sure looks blue to me!! The grips are obviously not original!!!

Looks like a Russian dip-blued import from around 1995 from the blued safety bar and the Russian grips. It must have been vodka Friday at the grip molding factory when that checkering mold was cut. From the photos and the text of the ad--it seems as though the seller believes these are 1940 grips. Otherwise, why would he provide such detailed photos?

I totally agree with Luke... these are eastern European replacement grips...

This guy has had this up for auction before. At that tiem I e-mailed him and told him his grips were not original. He said several people had sent him nasty e-mails about it, but as you can see he has not changed the description.
