Noticed this 1915 DWM P-08 has an Erfurt proofed breechblock....

Is this correct ?

Curious comment. The proofs on the right side breech of this piece are very clearly 1915 DWM as pictured on page 289, #77 in Costanzo, as is the eagle on the forward toggle link. Why do you believe these proofs to be Erfurt?

This K date from the same place has no S on the sideplate or many of the small parts. I think Pete is talking about the proof on the left side of the breech block shown in the bottom picture of the 1915 ad.K date ad

Lyn, unless my eyes are deceiving me (possible at my age) the eagle on the breechblock is not as shown in Costanzo, Pg 289, #77 but is like the ones on the upper part of the page which are identified as Erfurt.

While I have absolutely NO compiled evidence to support it, I'm beginning to believe that some parts may have been supplied to DWM by Erfurt as evidenced by the Erfurt Eagles found on DWM Artillery barrels and breechblocks. If no Erfurt Lugers were made in 1915 and they had parts that DWM could use, it makes sense to me that the parts would have been shipped to DWM for use in their production. Just as modern-day manufacturers share parts, why wouldn't the government arsenal at Erfurt share parts to complete a government contract with DWM?

This is just an unsubstantiated theory of mine but it would be nice if anyone who has an Imperial DWM Luger would check to see if any has an Erfurt Eagle proof anywhere on it. You can e-mail the information to: doubs43@earthlink.net and I'll compile the information. I could be all wet on this but I'd like to find out.

I guess, in this case, I have the advantage, because I bought this piece and am able to examine it up close and personal. The proofs are definately DWM, although the one on the front toggle link is faint enough that the pictures in the auction could have confused anyone. It is a very clean 1915 with almost "0" grip strap wear, no pitting and about a 5% overall loss of blue on the high points. Originally, I was negotiating with these folks for the purchase of a 41 chamber date, Code 42 until they told me that the alpha suffix was an "x". Seems that someone built it up using a byf 41 frame and a Code 42 toggle with the correct serial number. The 1915 was an afterthought that I'm glad I pursued, because it fit a hole in my Imperials.
