1914 DWM safety bar

Hi folks,

Inspecting a military P08, I notice this DWM 1914 date is otherwise a standard military but has a blank safety bar. I have seen only s/n'd safety bars previously. The condition of the P08 is 95% plus and all parts look original. Were any early P08 safety bars unnumbered? The books all show numbered bars (I am talking about the bar that pops up--not the external hand operated lever).

My 1914 DWM military has a numbered safety bar.

All the ones I have seen are numbered although I do have a spare that is blank.

There are some photos of my DWM 1914 in the Owner's Corner under "Aaron." It has a numbered safety bar.

The safety bar should have been numbered to the pistol when it was originally assembled. If it is not then the two explanations are(in order of probability):
1. it is a replacement
2. some one on the assembly line wasn't
paying attention.

Hello David,

Both my 1918 DWM Arty and my 1916 DWM P-08 have the numbers stamped.

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Thanks for the replies. It sure looks original and the pistol is overall not one that looks like it was rebuilt. If a part was replaced, it seems it would not be that part but who can say.

Thanks.

LP08:

I agree. What goes wrong with a safety bar? However, the fact remains that it "should" be rumbered to the pistol. Who knows? The Shadow do.

I agree that the safety bar on a DWM 1918 military should have the last two digits of the S/N marked on it near the top center (later Mauser moved location further aft). Commerical safety bars were unnumbered. Chances are this is what you have (better no number that the wrong number school). If you will let me know the number needed, I'll see if I have it. Sorry Carl... you may or may not have been joking, but it wasn't Garfield... I know who it was (and I'm not him either)...

The "shadow" can't post to the lugerforum anymore because this board prohibits anonymous posts...

so let's not open that can of worms again please.

BTW, I just received the article on Luger restorations in the mail today... thanks a bunch!
