Canadian Luger advice please!!
Hi, firstly I'm not sure if there are any Canadian Luger collectors/shooters on this forum, but if so I have a question.
I am looking for recommendations for purchasing my first Luger (in the restircted class). I am looking for advice on cost/availability for a good shooter grade restricted Luger here in Canada. What/where should I look for my Luger and how much will I have to pay. Are there store that specialize in Lugers, etc... Yan. |

Hello Yan,
Welcome to the Luger Forum !! Yes there are a few of us collectors here...Canadian Luger collectors are to be found scattered all over the country from Vancouver to Nove Scotia... For my part, just a `` small `` Luger & German Pistols Collector from Montreal... Books & a bit of knowledge on Lugers are always a good starting point as you'll soon discover that exceptions are often the rule in the Luger pistols field... Can our fine neighbors to the north clarify "restricted" for us Yanks who are not familiar with this term? Is a special licence needed for collectors?

mm, I may be a bit off on my measurements but here goes: there are three classes of firearms in Canada: non-restricted (long arms with a barrel length of 18.5 inches or more), restricted (mostly small arms but some rifles with a barrel length under 18.5 inches but over four inches) and prohibited firearms (a barrel length of under 4 inches). Unless you are grandfathered to own one or there are other extreme circumstances the average gun owner cannot legally possess a prohibited firearm. Therefore most Lugers are unable to be purchased by the average Canadian. However you can obtain a restricted license to purchase a hand gun with a barrel over 4 inches (this is where a rebarreled (or navy or Artillery) Luger may come into the picture.
