tropical holster on ebay

What countries would this have been used in?

Well the seller is from Sofia Bulgaria, and the holster is sewn in the Bulgarian style...

I have never seen a holster such as this, and would be careful on bidding too much.

This type of holster would have been very useful in tropical climates such as African jungles, Indonesia, etc. where leather rots rapidly...

There are lots of new looking holsters coming out of Bulgaria these days. Some are original. Others, like this canvas one, I suspect were made last week.

Wasn't going to bid on it, I was curious to know what tropical countries Germany was tramping around in back then. My entire militaria collection has but one German item, a 1918 Erfurt. German military history is my least known topic. I enjoy these forums in part because of the history. John Sabato, it's interesting to get feedback from someone who is knowledgeable enough to recognize sewing "In the Bulgarian style..."

Hi,

Some Dutch lugers can be found in Canvas holsters, but usually these are unmodified british service revolver holsters.

None were officially issued as far as I know.

I thought it was kind of interesting myself... I bid a couple of times, but I too, am cautious as to the large amount of items coming from this area... they are very crude, and with that, almost impossible to prove old or new??? But the thought of a tropical luger holster is kind of neat... best to all! til...lat'r...GT <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

dittamedia,

Here is a photo of a better example of the usually crude Bulgarian Luger holsters... you can see the similarity in the design. The closure strap on the canvas holster is in the German style, but the holster design is definitely Bulgarian ...

Not really so difficult a task when you spend your 'idle' time looking at Lugers, holsters and/or photos of them :) I have doing that for the last 40 plus years...
