Luger mag ID help.
 

A few months ago I mentioned in a post that I had acquired a matched 1915 dwm upper with a mismatched lower along with a mis matched p-38 for 300 bux. Part 2 of the saga was the seller promised me a "bunch " of mags for the Luger that he had accumlated over the years. I finally got the mags yesterday. In short he had 17 P08 mags and 1 P-38 mag. The majority of the P-08 mags are WW1 style I guess with the nickel body and wood bottom. Most are numbered. Amazingly there were 2 fxo 37's with bakelite bottoms that are 90% or better. They will go well with my BYF 42.
Now for my question , one of the last mags is a blue body with an aluminum base . The base has no numbers but appears to have an eagle proofmark. ALso on the side of the mag is " Haenel Schmeisser " patent. The mag is about 90% also. I havent seen one of these before and was looking for help ID'ing it. What model would it have been for? I saw similiar markings one time on an mp-40 mag. Any idea on value ? Thx, ESU.

With this type of discription your mag could be several things. It is a waste of time to speculate. Suggest that your gain access to a camera or buy some reference books.

From your description it sounds like the next to the last Haenel Schmeisser variation. These have a blued tube, have blank alumium bottoms, can have an Eagle C usually or possibly an Eagle F on the base, and the logo on the side. The connecting pin is the main point of interest as it should be either silver in color or blue and should be convex (sticks out) and not concav (like the black plastic). These magazines were used on late commercial Lugers (Banners) and for police Lugers (Banners). They are a hard magazine to find and a good item.

Sorry about not posting photos last night Garfield but had a hard day at the office and didnt break out the camera. You guys are such wizards I didnt think one would be necessary. Anyway here goes, I have 3 photos but just remember my camera is not top notch. As for the pin it is silver not blue and is concave (sticks out) . As usual, MauserLuger is correct. AS ML pointed out, there should be a small letter next to the swazi of the eagle; can you make it out?

Didnt notice it before but there is a small c there.

The pin was convex , out, not concave , in, sorry.

Again, as ML pointed out, E/c would be the proper police acceptance stamp for this type of mag.

Thx to all for responding and assisting. Basically I have a police model mag but from what time frame? Also ML made mention of the pin in the bottom, ML whats the difference and why would it be important ? Lastly , approximate value ? Thx Again.

Time frame is approximately 1939 through 1942. These blank based magazines where mainly used on commercial Banners and the late 41 and 42 two digit Banners. These magazine are first found in the 1939 police Banners, but have the serial number and a 1, 2, or 3, with quite a few being number 3.

The pin is important as it is unique to this magazine. No other magazine is pinned in this convex manner, only the blued Haenel S. magazines. The last variation is still pinned in this manner but the tube has no logo.

Value will vary on condition. I do not like to guess on value as what one see's as mint, another see's as very good.
