G code luger's worth?
A buddy looked at a luger today and wanted to know it's worth. I haven't seen it but this is what he told me. G date, S/42, one non-matching mag, all numbers match, v-good bore, light (pitting) spots on one side,non-import, but strap worn. The guy wants $750, what do you think?

Dan, you have heard this before, but condition is everything!! Based on the information (very limited) I would say if the original finish is 90% or better, both internal AND external metal parts match and the pitting is minimal, the price is fair.

Matching numbers is not useful information -- ask if it has its factory original parts. There is a G-date for sale here in Colorado that is touted as having all "matching numbers" but the sideplate is a replacement that was stamp numbered with a heavy hand. The magazine, however, also has a "matching number" also not orginal to the gun. The local collectors that have been shown this G date have not offered over $350 for it.

That's about what I thought. I just wanted to know if the G date was some thing not to pass up. Thanks for the info. Daniel
