This one is obviously not correct. Anyone else see any problems with this piece?

It's things like this that are driving up prices. I am gonna have to find me another hobby.

Overbuffed? Reblued? Strawed parts? Looks like a shooter to me.

That's been up for auction for a few weeks now. I looked at it and being a novice collector thought something didn't look right with it. Glad I passed on it

By 1938, all military issue (S/42) Lugers were being totally blued... no straw parts. This piece is way over-priced.

I also agree that the piece has been buffed and reblued. A good shooter at the starting price... but out of sight now. Obviously, the bidders are NOT members of the Lugerforum :)

Made a stop at the local pawn shop earlier today, owner pulled out a very nice 1937 S42, 95% at least, very tight, original grips, side plate didn't match, Schmeiser magazine 0069, price was $850. They ain't getting any cheaper.

Yup. I looked at it. I thought about it. I walked away. But then I returned. The owner nonchalantly edged it a little closer to me on the counter. He positioned it slightly to my left so the lighting would reflect softly down the slender gleaming barrel. It caused, well, feelings. I picked the gun up again and studied it closely. The date on the chamber reverberated faintly the rhythmic tromp of hobnailed boots to the sound of marching music. "Hoch die Fahne, hoch hoch hoch!" I held it closely, caressingly, gently touching and knowlingly exploring its fine detailed lines and smooth curves. Its subtle alluring scent of fine machine oil caused my nostrils to flare and my breathing quickened as my heart beat increased. I noticed an imperceptible, all but to me, tremor in my hands. I thought of the hands who might have held this same firearm and the situations in which it most probably had been used. A panzer grenadier on a PKW crossing the plains in Silesia in '39. A Pioneer Feldwebel assaulting the Belgian frontier in 1940. A Landser Feldwebel in the Ukraine in 42. The owner had already placed a yellow sheet of paper in front of me and asked me for my driver's license. The pen was ready. But, with a great display of sadness and willpower, I declined. I left. And, all things willing, this too will pass.

Getting a case of "the shakes" is a dead give away that I a goner when considering a firearm purchase! I think your self control is admirable!

Roadkill, you go right back there tomorrow and buy it! What's the difference if a couple of little numbers on a part don't match, as long as it's a sound gun otherwise? Give it a good home, and then there will be a happy ending to this otherwise sad story. This is the Christmas Season, so consider it your "Charlie Brown" luger. Enjoy!

After reading Rk's dissertation. I don't think I'll ever be able to look at a Luger the same way again.
