Nickeled 4 inch Bull Barrel
 

Well, I just got back from Puerto Rico for work and looked at my new acquisition! It is sweet Tom, I love it!

It is a John Martz barrel, the frame is nickeled, the bull barrel is burnished metal. I know that Mr. Martz has done that on other occasions and it does look very nice. Shoots good, the last couple of rounds didn't fire, I cleaned her up and took a look at the firing pin, but it appeared fine, although the rounds show only a light indentation.

Any suggestions?

Cleanup the firing pin tunnel in the breech block, see if the pin is sliding easy, oil the pin lightly, replace the firing spring with a Wolff replacement spring. Go shoot it and provide test targets......that baby has GOT to me accccccurate!!!

Holy Toledo! You know there are going to be comments about pimp guns, but I have got to say that is one FINE LOOKING LUGER! Congratulations! I agree with Thor, I want to see how that critter shoots once you get the mis-fire problem fixed. I'll bet it will shoot better than you can. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Ed your new luger looks great. i have been looking for a heavy barrel, but have not been able to find the right one.

Thanks guys, will take her apart and clean the pin good. Never taken the firing pin out, any tricks I should know?

Russ, my last two Lugers I picked up from the forum, by mentioning that I was looking for something. Now Hugh has this 6 inch bull barrel that is really sweet looking... [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

When he posted pics, that is what got me intrested in a bull barrel luger.{ we have all those sage rats that are a lot of fun to shoot}

Ed, regarding removal of the firing pin. there are no tricks involved. just turn the firing pin retainer one quarter turn counter clockwise but be prepared for the spring to jump. It is held in place by a simple tongue in grove type mechanism (looks like a screw) that works similar to the barrel bushing on a 1911A1 Colt.

And don't just clean the firing pin, make sure you clean the crud out of the firing pin recess in the bolt. Lots of dirt can accumulate there over the years. too much dirt means not enough travel and that in turn means light or insufficient primer hits.

Seriously Ed, that's a fine looking Luger. I'd like to have one with a slightly lighter 6" bull barrel in .30 caliber. Like everyone else, I'm anxious to see what yours will do.

Thanks Tom, will test fire after I get home, RK told me how to take the pin out, EASY once you know how [img]biggrin.gif[/img] and I'll see if cleaning her up fixed her [img]smile.gif[/img]
