1908 DWM First Issue . . . . help, please.
 

Just bought a 1908 First Military Issue which seems proper; proofs on LEFT side of receiver, military serial number (4 digits with suffix), and unit markings on front grip strap. Also, it has the hold-open retrofit with the appropriate proof underneath the pin, and the hold-open was numbered to match the gun. All numbers are located in the commercial positions.

Everything about the gun indicates that it is really an authentic, not messed with, Luger. In addition, I bought it from one of the most reputable of all the dealers with whom I have done business. [img]smile.gif[/img]

It has several parts without serial numbers:
Firing Pin
Safety Bar
Safety Lever
Extractor
Sear Bar
Grips

I have read somewhere that some parts on the First Military Issue were not numbered. Can anyone confirm this? Appreciate any help you can provide.

Luke, Your unnumbered parts sound correct to me, except the extractor should be numbered internally, since these were numbered in the commerical style. I hope that the mag that I sent, matches the condition of the pistol. Tom H.

I checked the extractor and it is not numbered on the underside, just blank. [img]frown.gif[/img]

I was most concerned about the sear bar. It is the extended type which is appropriate for this gun, but it is unnumbered.

Would very much appreciate hearing from anyone with a 1908 DWM FMI regarding the extractor and/or sear bar.

My 1908 FMI is marked exactly as yours. To the best of my knowledge, the sear bar is not numbered until they started numbering in the military style (exposed numbers) in 1910. I do not know about the extractor since I am reluctant to drift out the pin to remove it unless there is a really urgent need to do so.
