Help me out please!
Hi all, my father is an avid ww2-era weapons collector. This past Christmas my mother bought him a 1939 Luger pistol. Quite a fascinating weapon; I can definately see why this site would exist.
The weapon came in a german holster that is brown leather and has a spot for an extra magazine and some sort of tool in the pouch, along with a leather strap that seems to make removing the pistol easier. My dad has his birthday coming up pretty soon and I would like to obtain a matching original belt to go along with the holster. Could one of you tell me what type of belt's were used, where I could look for one, and approx price range? I see tons of German WWII military belts for sale on eBay, but I'm not sure which to go after. Also I don't care for eBay so if anyone knows a direct seller that'd be better. Thanks for any help you can provide! |
Welcome James (lugerson),
The belt should look similar to this one that was sold on eBay two years ago... http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/belt01.jpg You may find similar buckles that have an alternate inscription but a similar crest. Mine has "G¶tt Mit Uns" for the inscription. If you find one suitable for your Dad's Luger rig, it will likely be not in a condition that would serve well for actually wearing it and carrying the pistol... it would be more for just collecting and display because leather doesn't age as well as gun metal. If you think he might actually want to wear the belt for re-enactment purposes, I would recommend that you get a good buckle as seen in the photo above and then obtain one of the surplus East German police belts that are of similar construction and that are often found on eBay. The WW2 buckle should fit the later belt. Good luck and let us know what you find and buy him... If you have the ability, how about posting some good photos of your Dad's Luger and accessories? |
Here is a good source for a belt and buckle I just spotted on eBay... the price is low and you can replace the 1969 West German buckle with one from WW2 when you find one you can afford. This one is serviceable in the meantime and a good value if the size is right.

The first buckle shown is an SS Type. While some SS Troops did carry Lugers, they for the most part didn't. The buckle with GÃ??TT MIT UNS would be more appropriate.

does anyone know where I can buy one direct? I keep getting outbid on eBay and don't have the time to watch it for the last hour of the auction.
Phone # would be great if anyone knows of one for sale. Thanks! |
