Question on 1937 S42 finishes
Does anyone know the serial number range that falls under rust blued and strawed 1937 S42 Lugers as opposed to ones with salt blue finishes.
Thanks in advance, Blaine |
Still says 1500t is the break point. Before that they were rust blued/strawed, after that all salt blued. Get his books, they are superb.

Hey, I'm ordering them one at a TIME! Oh yeah, I spell my middle name, Blayne, so you weren't talking to me,
So Thor, before that time period, essentially all the other guns were rust blued/strawed, to include Erfurts and such? Is there such a break or very many exceptions? |
Ed,
All early Lugers, DWM and Erfurt (and Spandau) were rust blued and strawed. |
Ed:
1500 t is a good reference point, however, there are exceptions. When you are dealing with parts that have been made in batches and transferred to "bins" at assembly points it is extremely difficult to effectuate and order stating that "all pistols assembled after XXX number will have etc.". Also, keep in mind that this cosmetic change was to simplify and cut the costs of manufacture, |
Thanks guys, that is easy to know, hard to remember, will write it down on my foot.

Thanks! I'm a WWII fan and don't know much about the intricacies of Lugers. I started out wanting "a Luger." But after reading all the posts and related websites, I'm getting consumed in the details!
Thanks again, Blaine |
