Unknown marking
 

My 1914 DWM has a very small stamp under the barrel and on the right side of the triggerguard which I have been unable to identify. It looks like two superimposed "W"s below a blob. The gun is also marked with "N" below eagle which I believe indicates that it was a Mauser rework. Attached (I hope) is a photo. Thanks in advance for your help. Karl, I found three of the eagle stamps in Costanzo's book but all three that look like yours are on post war commercial Lugers dating from 1950 to 71. The other mark is not clear enough to get an idea of what it is, is the one on the trigger guard any better? Also, have never seen that 9mmP stamping before either.

I'm confused, would post-war German commmercial marks be on a 1914 DWM? Numbers on barrel, reciever and most other parts match, and the barrel and reciever have correct DWM military proof marks according to the Luger Forum web pages for markings. I note that there is a eagle over "N" proof mark listed there for early 1930-33 mauser reworks (#36 on "Proof 4" page). This resembles the eagle over "N" stamped on all major parts of the gun. KFS

The three that I found were the only types that matched your eagle, perhaps yours was just not cataloged at the time. There are a whole bunch of eagle over N shown but only three with wings that fold up and over the eagles head. I would imagine that particular eagle for that date is just not shown. Would like to get a better shot of that other mark on the trigger guard.
