1940 Luger

I was recently introduced to a WW2 vet who had a brand new condition 1940 Luger and holster with all tools, etc present. Made him a substantial offer for it, but he saw too many antique road show shows, and rejected the offer as too little since he had an inflated view of it's value. After I left his house, his wife took it to a local gun shop which gave her $250 for it! He called me to whine about it, and I told him that his greed screwed us both! Now I am whining myself.

Go to the gun shop and tell them your aunt sold a stolen gun! :D Seriously, go to the shop, explain the situation and offer them $600 for it, and explain that it is a shame that this lady who didn't know anything about guns was only given $250.00.

They might counter with $800.00...

Just a thought,

Ed

Go to the shop. Say nothing about the origin of the gun, but offer to buy it for $600, cash, no second chance. Give the original owner $500. He gets $750, you get a nice gun at a fair price, and the gun store owner is happy as he thinks he shafted everybody.

The day my wife takes one of my pistols to a gun shop and sells it without my knowledge is when I go to an attorney and get a divorce. What a weenie! The World is full of IDIOTS. Jerry Burney

Slow down you guys, how many of you actually looked at this pistol. Matching magazines? 1940 holster? 655 tool? Think it over before we all jump to conclusions. Maybe it was a 250 dollar Luger.

Don,
If it was a $250 Luger, She would have gotten about $35, and if the Pawnbroker was in a generous mood perhaps $45 and thats about it!
The Pawnbroker probably placed a resale value of about $800 to $900 on it.

Gentlemen, thanks for the advice, but I live in a state which prohibits pistol ownership, and the former owner lives in a similar state next door.No way for me to purchase it from the gun shop! That rig was worth $1200 with the holster, and a private deal was the only way for me to obtain it.
