1912 Erfurt Marking
A recent question posed by Jeff 4570 concerned the
marking "8,82" on the under side of the barrel under the serial number. I have a 1912 Erfurt with the same "8,82" marking. The serial number is 8282. Is this a coindence? Does anyone know the meaning of the "8,82" marking? |
Total coincidence, this is the measurement between the lands / grooves of the rifiling.
BTW, Europeans use a comma instead of a period like Americans do. |
It is a coincidence, a neat coincidence, but a coincidence none the less! The 8,82 is the bore diameter in mm measured from land to land. The comma is used the same way as we use the period, i.e. 8.82mm
(Ed is quicker on the draw than I am! . He got his post in first.) |
I do have an 1912 ERFURT with that same 8,82 bore diameter number on the underside of the barrel...
