FINALLY...!!!
 

While all of you were busy trying to figure out how to POST pictures - I was as busy trying to FIGURE OUT my damned camera so I could have PICTURES TO POST!!!! As Ted would tell you (but he's too nice to say it)- my previous pictures looked like they were taken with a Brownie Camera at 25 paces...


Here is try #1 (a 1918 DWM).. I'm going to set up a web page for this one and another Luger so I can sell them through in Lugerforum classifieds in a day or two...

Yep - I bought a FUJI that I'm still trying to figure out. It is supposed to be pretty good, but guess it would help if I read at least a couple of the pages in the 200 page owners manual I looked for the section called "Shooting Lugers" in that camera manual - but didn't find it.. (PUN intended - Heh, heh, heh...).


Ummm - you hit the nail on the head as to why I'm selling a few of these - I have another Krieg lined up, so need to start budgeting getting it home... Wish I could keep all my Lugers, but... Well, you know....

Thanks about the complements about the picture - I've been trying for weeks to get one that came out properly so I could post a picture here.. Ted and others do such a fantastic job with their photos that they have spoiled all the folks here by posting only excellent quality pictures..


Anyway, my short story behind selling this 1918 and several others is to focus on my primary collecting interests - which are Kriegs and other less frequently encountered Lugers. While ALL Lugers are worth collecting and cherishing - unfortunately, I can't afford to keep them all. That being said - I began collecting Lugers in the early 80's, and at one time, had an extensive collection of American Eagle and WWI pieces. I financed them by building custom O-Frame 1911s for competition shooters in my area in the evenings and weekends. Through a personal turn of events, however - in the early 90's, I was forced to liquidate all but one Luger and got out of licensed gunsmithing as a part-time job/hobby.


When I just couldn't stand it any longer (just over a year and a half ago, and after being "out of the loop" for almost 9 years!) I resumed Luger collecting - I still wasn't sure which era/types I wanted to focus on - but fairly quickly decided on the two areas I mentioned above...


However - for all that - I know I am still a beginner in many Luger topics â?? especially outside the areas that I collect in, but I have learned a lot with the help of this Board - and I'm still learning day-by-day...


Outside of Lugers though - I don't collect any other firearms - even though I do still have one of the Custom Colts I built.


Anyway - thanks for asking..!! Want to now share your vision with the rest of us as well??!!

As for Digital Cameras - as I mentioned, I purchased a Fuji (not sure of the model number?) but it takes excellent pictures. The difficulty I think I was having was that in the close ups, the flash would flood the picture and you'd see nothing but bright spots - and really contrasty colors. I tried pictures inside under incandescent lights (I have no flourcesents at home) and using the halogen spots I have in my display cabinet. NONE of these worked!! Either the pictures were too blurry (using no flash) or were wayyyy too bright...


BUT - I think I found the solution...! The picture above was taken indoors using diffused sunlight - a thin white curtain (you know the really sheer ones?) cut the direct sunlight just enough to render this image quality. No flash was used. So, on sunny days, between the hours of 2PM and 4PM - I can take pictures (as long as Jen doesn't change those curtains!!..


Love to know how other folks take them, though...???

All you need to know about digital cameras is: NIKON COOLPIX 990. It will take closeups as close as .8 in, which is closer than any other on the market. It lists for $999 US, but I just bought one new in unopened box on eBay for $690 including shipping! Go here to read reviews on digital cameras: http://www.imaging-resource.com/

Yes, but it's still Japanese! The Nikon Coolpix 950 can be found at half that price. It is the model prior to the 990. That is what Ted uses to take those fantastic closeups.

There is a Kodak alternative but it is also Japanese manufactured
 

I just bought a Koday DC4800 that is capable of 3.1 Megapixels. As soon as I have finished reading the instruction book I will know how close it will focus. The shots that we took over the weekend were fantastic. I took over 80 shots at 2.1 Megapixel ( which is the same resolution as TED's Nikon) and the display indicated that there was room for at least 40 more!)


I don't know about Germany, but Kodaks is running a $100 rebate until May 5th. I paid $469.00 for a kit that included the camera, software and USB and Video cable to allow you to view pictures directly from the camera to any video monitor, two lithium-ion rechargable batteries, the charger and a 64 MB memory card, and a certificate for a free auxilliary lens adapter. After the rebate, the cost will only have been $369.00!


We have a 36" Sony flatscreen (WEGA) Television and the photos were excellent even blown up to that size. I will photograph my Lugers probably this weekend to post them here so you can see the quality.
