Nick, there are many considerations as to condition for restoration such as was the pistol hard polished before the chroming process? If not the stampings should be crisp under the chrome and the edges sharp. If it was over polished before chroming the pistol will not be worth restoration.

The rarity also plays a part as the restoration is likely to run $400.00 or better if it is rust blued. It might be better to pass on this one and invest in one that does not need restoration. You have to do the math. If it is a common model I would have some reservations about it.

Yes, the chrome can be removed by reversing the electrochemical process. Expensive.

You must consider what your purpose is for the pistol, collector value goes out the window so it is a shooter. I wouldn't put all that time and trouble into a shooter unless someone gave me the pistol for free or it was specially marked or rare.Jerry Burney

Hello Nick,

Noticed by your user profile that a 1913 Erfurt might be on your luger-hunting list...

Have you checked out the folks at Simpson's, as they seem to have a couple of 1913 offerings :

Prices with dealers tend to be higher...but Bob and Brad Simpson seem to have solid reputations with most folks. Spend some time with them on the phone and ask what small parts may or may not be Erufrt proofed...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />
