Questions on my first Luger

I just obtained a 1918 DWM Luger and will post a picture of it shortly. I fired it with Winchester 115 grain FMJ ammunition and the extracted cases came out looking like they were bottlenecked. See the picture (case on the right shows up the best). The "bulged" section is about .010'' more in diameter than the diameter at the mouth. Is this normal for a luger?

Vern,

Take a look at this diagram of the Luger barrel and chamber.

http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfuploa...ramm_copy1.jpg

The 9mm cartridge case is not truly cylindrical, but tapered very slightly from base to mouth. The original Luger 9mm chamber, however, is cylindrical, with a step near the front of the chamber to bring it down to the diameter of the case mouth.

Despite the precise nature of the blueprint, I have observed chambers in which the ring is not very apparent, and chambers in which the ring is not completely circumferential. My bet is, if you look very closely into the chamber of your Luger, you will find a very pronounced dark ring, which is this step.

Dwight,

Yep, I see the ring and that answers my question...Thanks.
