Please help me match up holsters with pistols
Hello Parabellumites:
I have four Lugers and two holsters. I do not know whether either holster matches up with any of the guns. Can you help? I know it's kind of like a kids' logic problem up in here. Extra credit if anyone can read what's written under the name in the black holster. I suspect it's either the name of a town or an army affiliation (not exactly great sleuthing on my part.) Anyhoo, hoping you experts can help out! :^) |

The 2 holsters go best with the 2 S/42 marked Lugers.
The 1914(?) DWM would best pair with an Imperial era holster. The Mauser banner Luger would be better with a later dated Luger holster. In practicality, the Germans were not super worried about holster and gun years matching up like we collectors are. |
The Mauser banner is a police gun and should have an appropriately dated police holster. I don’t generally chase holsters, but I think most would consider a holster dated within a year of the to be correct. E.g., 1939/1940/1941 holster date for a 1940 chamber date.

Most collectors are happy with a holster the same date or one year earlier or later. As stated above the Germans did not worry about holster dates. They were separate purchase items. It's us collectors who have this fetish. Me to. Bill
