Looking to purchase this luger
 

Hello i am looking for information from the community on this luger i stumbled across at my local gun store. They are asking $1,400 for it i do not know much about lugers but i really want to learn about them would this be a good one to get into for a shooter. Im pretty sure it is 9mm which is what i want. Im pretty sure the magazine is aftermarket and i do see the rust in the barrel i dont think its pitted buy they advised me they are going to try to clean up the barrel on Tuesday and let me see it again.

Looks like a pretty good 1915 DWM that was kept by the Germans after the war, hence the 1920 property mark. I believe the sideplate is a replacement, as the finish and the serial number aren't correct. The font on the 14 does not match any of the other "14"s on the gun. The bore should clean up OK. I'd try to get it for closer to 1,000, considering condition overall. Just one opinion, you may get others.

looks like a decent quality shooter, id agree that the side plate is not correct, but if you don't care about matching #s a new side plate can be obtained. Based of the 1920 stamp it seems it was kept in arsenal by the Germans usually for police work etc. the bore I am sure can be cleaned up via honing or even some general cleaning and shooting. I have a 1911 dated shooter that has a much worse bore but still shoots pretty well. looks like an aftermarket magazine but hard to tell from the picture. I agree on the 1000$ price point if you are really wanting it.

For $1400 I think you can find a better shooter. . I agree with the $1000. Bill

$1,000 with tax and background check is going to be closer to $1,100. I personally would not want to pay more than that.

Tax is understandable BUT any shop that charges a fee to do a NICS background check that is FREE would NEVER see a penny of my business. It's an absolute rip off.

You know of FFL’s that actually do free NICS Checks and transfers? In my 29 years I have never met an FFL that doesn’t charge.

If I'm transfering in a gun bought elsewhere, then I charge 20 bucks for the transfer. If it's something out of my existing inventory, then of course there is no additional charge. No one should be charging for background checks, unless there is a State fee associated with a State required background check or "registration" of some sort. The Federal background check is free to the dealer. Some of the communist held territories East of the Mississippi, or Kalifornia come to mind, but I don't live there, so I don't keep track of what States charge.

The local pawn shop that I use doesn't charge for a NICS check if you buy their gun. They do charge $25 for a transfer fee if the gun comes from another seller. In Georgia, if the buyer has a concealed carry permit, they are not required to have a NICS check. The CCW satisfies that requirement.

My current FFL dealer's charge for incoming guns went from $15 to $20 a while ago. Unless I'm mistaken, it's a minimum of a state mandated $10 anywhere here. The place I used for the first pistol transfer I ever did charged $30, so I found another dealer pretty quickly after that! I used another guy until he retired and gave up his FFL, and he didn't charge for outgoing transfers. I'll find out what my current dealer charges to transfer outgoing guns eventually as I intend to thin out the collection.

The S.A.F.E. Act https://nics.ny.gov/new-york-secure-...ement-safe-act has fully kicked into application, and now there's a $2.50 background check for every ammo purchase. Fortunately, I'm fairly close to the PA border.

It is different in every area. In Ca i can only purchase C&R long guns face to face and registration is $19, all others have to go through a FFL. If it is shipped to a dealer they can charge what they want but it is normally $50-150. The state comes in for their part which is registering, $47.19, sales tax, 10%, and 11% tax to fund violence prevention.
