Which Borchardt would you prefer
Hi crew:
If you were looking to buy for a Borchardt and read 2 current sale descriptions: WHICH ONE WOULD YOU RATHER GO FOR? 1) Excellent condition DWM Borchardt model C93 chambered in 7.65x25 , 7 ˝" barrel with fixed sights, blue appears to be original and at least 95%, lands and grooves in barrel good but the bore is “frosty” , matching serial #s (1420) , shoulder stock/holster is marked 1008 , checkered walnut stocks, , matching 8 round magazine 2)High, original condition Borchardt C93 made by LOEWE, caliber 7.65mm, early production, all matching except magazine with reproduction stock. Full serial number “761” on bottom of frame, barrel, trigger, and all usual small parts except magazine “370”. Sliding safety is gray case hardened; strawed sear; fire blued trigger, screws, anti-rebound latch, and recoil spring housing covers. Walnut checkered grips with broad border. Correct magazine. Complete with custom shoulder stock that locks securely to pistol. Condition: VG+/EXC with bright original rust blue showing sharp edge wear and handling marks from a pistol that has seen light use. Most wear/thinning on front strap. Grips with handling marks commensurate with balance of pistol. Excellent magazine retaining most of its nickled finish and original varnish. Mirror bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Solid lock up to stock. I am a bit concerned about bore on the #1 more than mismatched mag on #2 Thanks for you opinions. |
From the standpoint of history, I would think that the Loewe example would be more desirable.

Get em both! :-)

got an answer from seller #1
He rated the barrel 0-10[10best]:
'I would rate the bore a 6 or 7 , I do not have a website, and I require an FFL or a C&R to ship. Thanks Jeff' This tips my choice towards #2 mainly due to better mechanical state as well as no hustle of FFL involvement. besides, I liked the expertise of Dr. Antaris[seller #2] - I knew of him from the Forgotten weapons and we had a pretty nice conversation. |

I like the early stuff...I always go Loewe.

I would think an original stock is pretty spendy...
And a frosty bore, that can mean a lot of things. |
Thanks for the input.

The other gun boasts mirror bore and sharp rifling, that sounds closer to 9 out of 10. Where 10 never shot. My Schwarzlose appears to have such bore. |
Did you say Doc A is selling the other one?
I'd trust his opinion. |

Yes, I am going to go with one of his Borchardts. #761. Even though he mag is mismatch. Expensive, but what the hell. But one can wait all life and not to make a move. |
Sounds like a good choice. I have a beautiful cased Loewe Borchardt with everything matching except the two magazines, and that doesn't bother me a bit.

Perhaps in the next thread you would let me pick your brain and …Borchardt archive / catalogue. It would be cool if the owners of the Borchardts with mismatched mags could reach out to each other somehow , exchange mags and reunite their guns with the appropriate mags. Something tells me the Luger community might be already doing such exchanges. |
