first timer...

Hi folks,

Just joined this site as have had a luger in it's holster for 40 yrs in my dresser that am looking to sell, most likely, on gunbroker and was hoping for opinions as to it's worth? Not an aficionado by any means but can say it is a 1917 DWM P08 Imperial 9 mm with all matching serial #'s (#4740) except the magazine, no chips or cracks. Did take it to the local dealer who said it is in "very good" condition. Have tried to see recent purchases on GB but nothing that I could find that truly matches what i have but am thinking (including holster) around the $1400 range from the research that I could find so far, is this too unreasonable or inline from what you guys think?

Do worry about being a first timer on gunbroker as well as far as collector interest compared with all the reputable dealers that i am seeing on there.

Any advice would be appreciated as am new to all of this,
thank you!

I would give you 1400 for it.

It looks pretty good to me.
1917 was a high production year, so it's not uncommon.
I see a lot of straw color remaining and it looks like the original finish.
The grips are in good shape and no obvious cracks or chips.

Look at the FAQs and check out the small parts for matching serial numbers.
The grips may or may not be numbered to the pistol.

Look for a date and manufacture stamp on the holster.

BTW, the serial number usually has a suffix that you would want to show.
Look at the frame front and under the barrel, too.

It would normally have a wood bottom magazine, but not matching isn't a big deal.

P.S. Don't store the pistol in the holster - use a gun rug or sock.

If you are going to list it on Gunbroker, 1400 is a good start. It may get bid up from there. Nice gun. Good luck!

Looks very original. When you offer it with pictures, the underside of the barrel will show the halos on the serial stampings , and a reflective picture of the bore condition, the front and rear of the grip straps bluing. Also, another way of storing is to cover it heavily in G96 gun oil and lightly wrap it in Saran Wrap . Put it safely back in it holster all protected and the oil stays well on your Luger.I feel it’s better than man made cloth zipper types as they will absorb the good gun protective oils away somewhat. The old leather won’t damage the finish anymore except for rubbing it against the finish pulling it out and in. Thanks for bringing it out for us to see.

Sell it here

More pics are needed, but $1400 for gun & holster is too low. That is shooter price. Holster is worth at least $200. You could probably sell it here with the holster for $1600 in 15 minutes. And pay no Gunbroker fees.

Is there a tool in the holster?

Where's the magazine?

Brian,

I do not see a photo of the magazine. Your description above indicates a mismatched magazine (which is typical) but not a missing magazine. A good original magazine, even from the wrong period, makes a significant difference in value.

How about some more pics of the holster?
