LugarMan Referances

Has anyone done business with Lugar Man Inc. ?
I am thinking of having a Broom Handle rebarreled and would like any comments on dealing with him.

reiver 08-01-2023 06:10 PM

I am in the process now and have no problem getting Eugene or Dmitri on the phone or email. However, they have more business than hands so if in a rush....but, from what I have seen they do excellent work.
I am having a Red 9 refurbed presently....

Patience is a virtue when dealing with them.

Perhaps "patience is a necessity when dealing with them" might be a bit closer to the mark.
P.S. This is not a put down of the quality of his work. From what I have seen it is top notch.

All depends on how young you are. Some can afford to be patient..some don't have the time.

Basically this.

After many years of debate, correspondence and calls with Eugene I have decided to cross off the list and order one of Lugerman’s 1907 Trials 45 Lugers, largely due to being convinced as to his commitment to quality -

Of all the words of advice my old man imparted to me that made no sense at the time but ring truer now than ever before is:
“You can have it right, or you can have it now … You can’t always have it right now”

I too am faced with a limited resource of time, but assuredly do Not have time to do over again.

LugerMan Referances

Thanks all,
I sent the C96 out to LugerMan, they got back to me with an estimate and a pleasant phone conversation. Dmitri said about 8 weeks for a turn around maybe. I have delt with enough gunsmiths that I am used to the wait.

I ordered a reproduction of the 1907 test trials .45 cal. luger from Lugerman back in Nov. of 2021. I paid the full price for the .45 luger at that time and was told I might expect delivery of the luger by mid. 2022. It is now Feb. 2024 and no word yet when I might expect delivery of the luger. Has anyone else had such an experience ??

Mac Cat 02-24-2024 06:08 PM

Yes, me too !!!
I ordered one at the same time you did.
They posted details on the forum and then took it down a few weeks later.
They call it the P2020 on their web site.

Eugene has never replied to any of my emails.
So, I call them every few months.
Yesterday, they told me that they only got 10 orders for the pistols.

They assured me that they will contact buyers to review their shipping instructions and FFL address details, when the guns are ready.

I was also told they are test firing 7 pistols this week.
Still no ETA.

Meanwhile, I have also bought some spare luger parts from them.

And, I have to admit, we all were forewarned that he was notoriously slow with his restoration work and not to expect anything soon. I also know that the Pandemic caused delays with new equipment.

I'm not making excuses for them.
I have faith and I very much support his craftsmanship.

I always considered my order as an investment to help keep them in business, because we really do need some active luger gunsmiths.

The other US luger manufactures here in the states have been a big disappointment.

Lugerman Delays

Thanks for your reply and to know someone else ordered a .45 1907 test trials replica about the same time I did. I hope I can receive the piece sometime this spring. The last time I talked with them on the phone I was told maybe they will ship sometime in April. I hope that is true.

LugerMan

An update here, LugerMan received the C96 8-7-23, I contacted them January of 2024, was told the barrel is on and there is a problem with blueing, contacted them today, 7-10-24, the barrel is not on and they are working on it. This is an order that is paid up front.

Will have to wait and see where this goes.

Promises by nothing.

I ordered paid in full a P2020 on May 11, 2023. Received an email receipt and was told "We look forward to fulfilling your order soon." Five months later emailed inquiring time frame and was told by Eugene "7-8 month at the time of order placement". So, I again emailed a year after order paced and received this message from Eugene "We have started shipping P2020 models early this year" (2024). "Our current speed of delivery is 2 orders a week, your order is scheduled to come out and be ready for shipping in 6 weeks."
Well,,, 6 weeks come and goes and nothing. So, I emailed again July 25th, 2024, and I am told it will ship in 3 months. I email back and give thanks for the quickly replied to email. he replies to that email saying "we are not going broke, all parts for guns have been made, we are assembling, testing and shipping every week,
it's just slower then expected." Well,, I never asked or accused him of such so I don't know why I received that email.
Three months goes by and nothing. So, I send another email and crickets. I have a friend that lives in Pennsylvania and he agrees to take a weekend stroll with his wife and have a look see. He tells me he thinks it has been closed for some time. Now I am really worried. The BBB gives him an "F" as the rash of complaints all have been "Unanswered" and not responded to. I see a few people on the NET saying they had to get local government offices involved to get a refund. I have seen this before with other once reputable outfits and I think he is in over his head and may have just given up or he is ill. So, I guess I kiss my almost $4,000 goodby.
Don't know what else to think when he says they are shipping 2 orders a week out of 80 orders starting early 2024. So, if one does the math then all orders would have been shipped.

I am retired now but had run to medium sized businesses and always delivered on time and kept on schedule. I also helped out part time on Saturdays in two different gun shops that had done custom gunsmithing. One made $4,000 1911's. So, I kind of know how things work.

Very concerned at this point!

OOF. Not good. You would think he would at least talk to his customers. Rick at SMG only asked for 100 bucks to hold my place in line for the FG42, (about 2 1/2 year delivery, if I remember correctly),and asked for payment when he was about 30 days out from shipping. Sent me a photo of a line of guns ready to go out shortly before I got mine. He would periodically update me on the progress of getting materials and building the guns. Eugene, it seems, is pretty much the opposite. Too bad, I was impressed with his restoration work.

sue them in small claims court. in PA state allows claims up to $ 12K.

Curly1 10-30-2024 01:13 PM

Anyone deciding to do business with this guy better hope they live long enough to see it delivered.

Randall_G 10-31-2024 05:14 PM

Has Lugerman not always had Option #2 listed here:

https://lugerman.com/luger-45/

Payment options:
1) Full payment + Shipping
2) 50% Now and 50% + Shipping 2 weeks prior to delivery time
3) $2000 down and $500 a month till paid in full/or delivery time
4) Full or partial trades are welcome

Seems like a good way to reduce financial exposure by 50%.

Moot point for me, considering I live in California. Not on the approved handgun roster.

Anyone dealing with Lugerman would have better luck dealing with a Nigerian Prince

Randall_G 11-01-2024 04:29 PM

I’ve had mixed experiences with Lugerman.

Bought a few parts over time. No problems.

Sent a Luger to evaluate a specific issue, with specific instructions. Without asking, they charged me some $500 for a standard “tune up.” Before paying the invoice, I asked if they had addressed the issue for which I had sent the gun in the first place. I was assured they had.

Got the pistol back. Issue not addressed. Not even close.

Send the pistol back. They get it, (eventually) look at, and tell me there’s nothing they can do. The person I spoke with on the phone said there shouldn’t be additional charges, since I already paid ~$500. The next day, I received another invoice for $175, including shipping.

Curly1 11-02-2024 01:01 PM

^^^ That should tell you right there what kind of guy you are dealing with.
