Cross draw Luger holsters
 

All photos I've seen show the Luger holster on the left hip. Why? Was it because they used their left hand to use the pull up strap?

With the belt usually worn relatively high, cross drawing the pistol is easier. Left hand on the pull up strap also makes sense.

I bought one of these 12+yrs ago. Sat unused in a draw since day one, and have no use for it. It was left hand so the Cavalry could swing a sword in the right hand;
