Any collectors from Canada here?
I'd like to purchase a restricted Luger (Arty, Navy or re-barrelled shooter) sometime later this summer. Can any Canadian collector point me in the right direction?
thanks very much |
We have several collectors from Canada in this forum. I am sure that one of them will respond as soon as they have had a chance to read your request.
the first member name I can think of is Kidvett... do a search for his posts and when you find one, you can send him a private message. |
Yes.....I am up in the great white North.....and have several Lugers for sale....Cheers....Peter...

Thanks Peter, I sent you an email earlier today to your hotmail account.

Hello Naugler,
As a few of us, I'm also a Canadian Collector.....German Military Pistols ( mostly Lugers.....) Have been for a few years :) Basic stuff to know: Do you want an original piece or a shooter ?? .30 Cal or 9 mil ?? Restricted originals would take you in the following categories: Contract piece ( 4 3/4 in 30 Cal ) Arty ( 8 in 9mm, expensive & not too common here ) and last Navy ( 6 inch, VERY VERY EXPENSIVE & close to impossible to find !! ) Shooter built up guns would be in the $600-$850 Cdn range depending on condition, finish & options.... Feel free to email / PM me for info....I'll be glad to help !! :D John, Thanks for the reference !! I havent been much on the LF lately......summer activities taking over....... MARK  |
Hey Mark, what would an artillery Luger fetch in this country? Just in average original condition, all matching, no holster?
|
Hi Josef,
Arty's are usually found in the $1500-1800 range.....A lucky find would be at $1200 and high end at $2500 ( who !! pays that much here for a pistol ?? ) If one comes your way, BUY IT !! My observations in the last few years are showing that Arty's have been scarce on the market due mostly to private Collections & Exportation. They were more common lets say just 5 years ago......but that can be said of a lot of Collector Pistols !! When is the last time you saw a nice German Hi Power here in Canada ?? MARK <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> |
Well...I'm just getting started on Lugers and there's no way I could justify paying over $1000 for an Artillery Luger. As I need to find a model with a barrel length over 4.2" my best and only bet is probably a re-barreled shooter. I want to shoot 9mm not .30.
The only retail outlet in Canada that I have found a re-barreld restricted Luger is the Collector Source. Price $650. I have included a link below. The pistol in question is the Finnish Luger about 1/3 of the way down the page. http://www.collectorssource.com/category.asp?catid=12 I originally thought that this was a bit expensive for a re-barrled Luger, but I haven't been able to find anything else to compare it to. Any feedback on this would be apprechiated. |
Naugler,
A ``Shooter `` 9mm ?? How about this one ?? MARK :D http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/f_lft_rd_back.jpg |
I honestly don't know enough about Lugers to know if your making me an offer on a shooter or making fun of my situation...
|
Naugler,
Dont get me wrong here......I posted this photo to show you what a nice ( in my opinion ) ``shooter ``Luger can be alike !! This specific piece was built by me with a little help from my Gunsmith......for a fellow that turned away because of pricing.....so yes it could be FS.... Like I stated previously and John pointed out to you, I can give you information & tips that can perhaps help you find what you want......and remember that we all started somewhere....... Just send PM or email & I'll gladly respond :D Friendly yours, MARK  |
Naugler,
The Finnish Luger you are considering is a reasonable deal. It appears to be a legitimate Finnish rebarrel and if it has the Finnish â??SAâ? in a rectangle on the left receiver and a marking on the barrel that is a â??Tâ? in a triangle inside a circle, it is correct. This is an acceptable Finnish Luger and is worth the $650 asking price if in decent condition. Finnish Lugers quite often have mis-matched serial numbers and are refinished, so that is why they do not command a very high price, but they are good guns and the 9mm caliber makes them particularly attractive as shooters. If I didnâ??t already have a similar Finnish Luger and didnâ??t have to contend with import bureaucracy, I would consider purchasing it. |
Thanks very much for the info Ron.

I'm living in Montreal right now and I was hoping to get a sweet deal on a luger up here. Some things I dont understand... in Canada you cant buy a regular P-08 luger but you can get an AR-15...? And back home I can buy lugers all day long but cant get an AK. Oh, the irony! Actually, I have found a decent shooter grade luger for $330 US. All matching 1917 Erfurt, with (gulp) aftermarket mag and a recent reblue (lots left). If I bought it, by the time it get home it would run me $450 US... is that still a decent price for a shooter grade WWI pistol? Keep in mind, this is strictly to take to the range (and cuddle with in the evenings). I'm wondering if the generic mag makes this not worth the cash, or is it still something of a deal? This would be my first luger, but by no means my first firearm.
Cheers, Erich |
Erich, welcome to the Lugerforum.
If you can get that Luger home for $450.00 LEGALLY then you better buy it. Even Shooter Lugers are worth every penny of that in today's gun market...and the prices will NEVER go down, only up. The price of the gun can be affected by whether or not it has a matching, or correct period magazine (as in price increase), but the gun itself is worth what you have been quoted. Aftermarket mags can be purchased for as little as $25-35... |
Ok, that is what I figured, so I will put the wheels in motion. Thankfully, it will all be legal; living in California makes one paranoid about knowing all the laws. It will have to pass through a few dealers hands on the way to me but it will show up eventually, assuming the ATF approves my Form 6.
Thanks John! Cheers! http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/1917lugerrt.jpg http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/1917lugerleft.jpg |
