DWM broken pin
Yesterday at a local Gunshow, I came across a 1917 DWM Arty. ( from a fellow collector ) that has a broken Center toggle pin. It is broken on the left side but still works.
I have a 1917 DWM ( standard 4 inch ) with that same broken pin on the left side! Is this common with 1917 DWM's? Anybody has seen this on other DWM Military? http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/DW...ggleBrkpin.jpg kidvett |
It is unusual that I would disassemble a Luger to the point of removing this pin. However, I did have occasion to do so with a 1917 DWM military Luger earlier this year. The pin was in two pieces, broken almost exactly in the middle, but there was no sign of this from the exterior.
I had never fired the gun, as it was a good collectable Luger, so I don't know how much danger it represents. I'm no expert, but I would strongly recommend that you not fire the gun in that condition until you hear from some of the real experts on the Forum. Good luck, Luke |
I took one out of a 1917 DWM and sadly it came out in two pieces. I wouldnt shoot your gun until the pin is replaced, if you dont you might end up having to replace some toggle links too.
