Luger assessment needed.
I have a luger that I am trying to figure out what I have and maybe value. I don't want to talk discussing value is not recommended by the forum. Here are some photos. Brian

Welcome to the Forum.
Some questions, is it matching? What is the chamber date? The details on the second pic are hidden from the great amount of oil on the gun. Could some better pics be posted? Thanks, G2 |
From what I can see, the grips, side plate, sear bar, TD lever, both toggle links, extractor, and safety bar (unless that is actually an 86 instead) are numbered 36 and matching.
Still need to see the frame, barrel, trigger, safety lever, hold open, breechblock, and firing pin. |
Hi, Need close up sharp photos showing detail of the barrel and frame serial numbers taken in shaded natural light without flash. Also the frame rails and slide rails areas.
Take your photos with a digital camera or a more recent cell phone that can focus on and resolve detail. Do get a copy of our FAQ PDF document, which will provide useful reference information for you to help you identify what you have. |
From what is visible, an early military P08 without stock lug.
What is the chamber date? Nothing wrong with discussing value on the forum. We just don't appreciate 'auctions' in the sales section and we require a sales price if a gun is posted for sale. But for assessments like these, discussing a value is no problem. |
Is there no magazine?

What I can see - DWM (maker in germany from 1900-1930)
**what is the caliber? - I expect it to be 9mm Luger, but you can show the underside of the barrel, it would have xxxx (serial number) and under that 8,82 or a number close to that - that is the land to land grooves. Is it marked Germany anywhere? I expect it not to say that And is that rust or gunk on the right side? Rust that much can be removed, but I would leave it alone If it came by my table at a show, I'd offer $500 without ascertaining much about it - more as I figured it out :D But, without matching grips, without a magazine, not much more than $600-700 |
Any Unit Markings on the grip strap?
|
The date will be 1913 or earlier - likely earlier - as it has the hold open modification and no stock lug. The directive that all Lugers were to have the hold open from the factory was issued on 6 May, 1913. Earlier guns were to be retrofit by the Royal Erfurt Rifle Arsenal with the hold open. Not all earlier guns were as they were not all returned to be modified.
