MAUSER stamped on Breech.??

Good Morning Guys.....Im sorry to maybe ask such a dumb question .....but..what year Lugers have the Full MAUSER name stamped on the top...?.....I have a couple of Lugers......but to be honest....I turn 80 in next couple months....and have always wanted to pick up a Good Used Luger that has the Mauser logo on the top....Im NOT looking for a "safe Queen'....but just a Good Honestly used Luger with the Mauser Logo.........Does that make sense.....also do not tell my Wife........ :surr: Thanks....Hans Fischer

Welcome to the forum Hans.

There are 2 flavors of Mauser Parabellum Lugers
1. Made during the 1930's through WWII

2. Made for commercial sale during the 1970's

As you do intend to shoot the gun I would suggest the more modern manufacture, or a mismatch from the early period.

Early period guns were hand finished and each part numbered.
When shooting a 90+ year old gun - parts do break - and get replaced
But a matched collectors gun is now an unmatched "shooter" grade and much lower in cost
One shot could cost you a couple of thousand dollars if you were unlucky

Get a shooter - leave the collectibles to the collectors.

Do go to the FAQ on this site, download, and read - a lot of your questions have answers there

hansfischer, I think the most common Lugers with the Mauser Banner on them are Police issue from 1938-1942. The are "v" suffix foreign contacts with the Mauser Banner that start before that. There are also commercial Banners during Mauser production. I would think a Police Banner would be the easiest to find.

I would also recommend a 1970s Luger with a 6" barrel, if you just want a enjoy shooting it. Lovely guns. They have a little different finish than earlier Lugers and they aren't that hard to find.'

Simpsons is priced high, but they have a LOT more Luger in the store than they post on-line. It's worth a road trip. (it's on my Bucket List, too!)

I live 40 miles from Simpsons. I used to go there a lot and just browse the store. Lots of interesting stuff there. Since the covid tho, they limit 2 people into the store. You have to call first and get in line which is time consuming.

I think he's interested in the earlier banner Mauser.
Here are a couple of pictures I found on Morphy's Austin web site from 2007 (never heard of them before)
