numbers inside DWM-sideplates
 

I have three DWM-Lugers and found out something interesting. We all know that the last two digits of the gun-number are on all parts. But did you know, that the first two digits (at 4-digits-numbers,as ex.: 2857), here 28, are inside the sideplates??? And i have one DWM with the number 358, the 58 outside and the 3 inside. But only at DWM-Lugers. I also have 3 Erfurt-Lugers and they have only the last two digits outside. Check your own DWM's and tell me how it is at yours!

I have two DWM 1917 Artilleries and one 1915 DWM 4". One of the Arty's has a replacement side plate so, no luck there. The other has the first 2 numbers of the serial number on the inside of the plate. The 1915 has the second number, out of the 4, on the inside of the plate.

Hmmm, I am a newbie and this pic is the sideplate of the 1940 Mauser I just got from Luke. The pistol Sn is 6610 and the number 67 is stamped inside the plate. Is this common??

U will find that the numbers inside Mauser sideplates are one digit higher than the first two digits of the serial number...

I have 1916 DWM artillery #2056. The outside is marked 56, inside nothing.

...for Mauser Lugers made after 1938. Before then it's a crap shoot whether there is a number and if so, it could be one higher, one lower or the same as the first two digits!!

For John's 1940, it's exactly correct!

Dieter, My 1912 DWM #X989 has 89 on the outside of the sideplate (on the bottom edge as commercial model) and 9 on the inside (on the bottom, adjacent to sear lever pin). KFS

I have a 1912 DWM which has 87 on the outside and nothing on the inside.

Thanks to all, my DWM's are from 1915, 1917 and 1918 and all have the first numbers inside. But why does the 1916 posted here have no numbers inside? Seems not to be regular.

Dieter, I have two 1906 DWM Lugers; an American Eagle and a Portugese M2. The inside of the sideplate on both are bare..... no numbers whatsoever.
