Never had a luger restored, totally understand the money spent vs money earned. Just doing this to have fun.

I found a Chromed maybe Nickled Simson, she appears all correct to me and I think a police pistol.

Who's the best to have this sucker brought back to as close as possible to original?

Who's the best to have this sucker brought back to as close as possible to original? Luger re finishers used to be a small selection. Good. better, best but they have been falling faster than the Venezuelan bolivar. I don't know of one who is any good and actually available to do any work. Charles Danner was my go to guy but he is gone too.

Seems Gale Morgan may or may not be taking any work and Dave Gill just posted that Ted Green (Thor) isn't taking any work either. Seems it's an open field with very few players.

How about a picture of your chromed Simson?

May be a "better" plan to sell the chrome on and buy what you want; but, then I believe everyone should have at least one nickel or chrome luger. ;)

I passed on a really nice matched 1914 Erfurt at a local estate sale.
I quit at $600 and it went for $700. 7 or 8 years ago.
They fill good niches in collection.
Risky messing with them.

I just bought a chromed Simson a few months ago, paid about $800 if I remember right, but it was unit marked and not buffed bad, otherwise about $600 is what I would have wanted to pay for one.

As stated, I would love to get the information on it, as I keep an anonymous listing of serial numbers, etc.
Need to know if dated or other markings on the upper, if the bottom of the stock lug is marked with eagle 6's, markings on the right and full serial number.
No offense, but If I get a serial number like 43xx - I simply don't add it.

The only Luger I have ever had "restored" was my Simson. I bought it as a shooter that had been refinished in salt blue, including the normally strawed parts.

Being "wrong" in these ways bothered me enough to have it redone properly. Now it's a pretty, proper, restored Luger. And one of only 12,000 or so ever made...

My favorite "shooter" is an all matching 1937 Mauser with serious pitting on the left side. Mechanically perfect. Just what you'd want in a "shooter"... so... there's a place for every Luger, including one showing the history of a GI chrome or nickle plate job...
