New to group\forum have some Q’s
 

Before I get ragged on... Yes I did do some searching and went through the FAQ’s. If someone could help me learn about the gun I just purchased and if there is a section to try and find a matching magazine? Any information on this Luger would be greatly appreciated and I would like to thank everyone in advance. The reason I purchased this gun is I am fascinated with WW2 and wanted a piece of the history. Please let me know if I paid a good price and if there is anything outstanding with the Luger good or bad. I have not received the gun yet so the following is all the information I have on the gun:

Welcome to the Forum. Many great and helpful folks here.

One of the first things to do in this hobby is to buy good books. The multiple volumes by Jan Still is a good way to start. If you can find a copy of The Mauser Parabellum you will be covering the later production of the P.08 with the exception of the Krieghoff guns.

You could post a WTB (want to buy) for the books on this forum or on the (former) Still Forum. Check Abebooks for "ballpark" values.

The FAQ has excellent info and will be a continuing resource.

As long as your purchase is matching you did OK- not great but OK. Import markings don't enhance the value of the gun. Condition could be better but it's your first and an education does cost money.

Don't be in a hurry, nice things will show up and you can decide how to proceed.

Members here will have guns for sale, the advantage will be honest descriptions and an inspection period is given.

Will look forward to seeing more pics of your purchase.

From the pictures, it looks like a nice honest 1939 42 code Mauser Luger.

Finish condition isn't the best, but the price you paid is probably appropriate in today's marketplace.

Once you have your new Luger in hand, I'd recommend your study our FAQ document, the reference information it makes available and then acquire some of the better reference books on Lugers. They are expensive books, but worth every penny.

You will look back and always remember your first Luger..for what it is and what it isn't. When you have this pistol in hand you will be able to see why condition is important to collectors .

JD, welcome to the forum. Nice honest-looking Luger. An honest gun, even in used condition, will always be worth more than you paid by the time you want to sell it. And I think you paid the going rate.

From what I can see from the photos, it looks like a good choice and I think the price is reasonable. The condition look right, the grips are in good shape, and if all the small parts are matching, you have a very collectable WW-2 P.08. I like it. I hope you'll share more pictures, too.

I think that it is an excellent FIRST Luger........there will likely be more! You can learn from this Luger, and develop a good understanding of how they function. Congrats :cheers:

Looks like a nice honest Luger. Like other members pointed out read, study this forum, buy books some of which might seem pricey but well worth it especially if you plan on buying more in the future (don't know of many people that stop with just one) There are a lot of pitfalls out there, knowledge is your ally!
