New to me DWM 1908 commercial

Picked this one up today. Externally excellent. The v.U. grip strap marking puzzles me. No hold open has been added. grips and firing pin are un-numbered. The sideplate has the first 2 digits instead of the last 2. The font is spot on to match the frame numbers.

Looks like a nice example, in 9mm- correct? Don't have a clue on the markings.

Correct. 9mm.

Looks like a pretty gun. The sideplate is curious though, as is the Unit Mark. Would like to hear from others.
Is it just me/ the picture, or does the upper look like it is a bit recessed in the frame and not flush like it should be? |
The upper/lower match, and the upper is pretty flush with the frame. Not perfect, but close.

I think I have the U.v. figured out. "Unterofficier vorschule". The NCO school.

The side plate number on my 1908 Commercial has the last two digits on it. Factory goof, or replacement part?

The side plate is curious could it have been an accident at the factory or possibly but unlikely could it have been replaced by a sideplate with those digits? Anyway it is a sharp pistol and the unit mark makes it very unique! Great score!

Very handsome 08 Commercial WITH A UNIT MARK........how unique!!!
Congrats, Ron |
nice weapon....but, why do you use a live shotgun shell as a prop...?
plenty of other options that don't go bang.............cuts down on your exposure for an accident.....Tom |
Realy nice Commercial Luger.
But the grip strap marking is v.U. not U.v. (Unteroffiziersvorschule)!! My opinion: These letters represent the owner's name. Example Name: von Uhlen or von Urff |
