7.65/30 cal dies
As picky as Luger can be with some ammo is it better to use a 3 die set or is a 2die set just as good if I was going to start reloading for the 30 cal Luger?
|
I use a 2 die RCBS set in addition to a LEE factory crimp die. The bugger on 30 Luger, in my experience, is getting enough crimp to keep the bullet from getting pushed back into the case during the feed cycle. The case just doesn't provide enough neck tension to do the job.

Thank You very much, just the answer I was looking for!

I will chime in also. I use the RCBS die set plus the Lee Factory Crimp die in my 30 Luger reloads......lead, and jacketed.
|
I use RCBS 2 piece dies and have had absolutely no problems. I shoot 85 gr. Privi bullets with Unique or CFE-P. No real hot loads.
|
Like Fla Mallard I also use RCBS 2 piece dies with 85 gr. Prvi bullets.
Have used Unique, and SR7625 powders No problems with bullet slippage. With the 2 die set it is a little tricky to get the crimp and seating depth set. But once done set the lock ring and forget - unless you change bullets. |
I also use the LEE crimp with alls bullets without crimping groove :D
The LYMAN in three dies for other is enough for me |
I use RCBS two-die set, for both cannelured and uncannelured, and never had a problem with set-back.
As a separate step, I apply "plenty" of roll crimp on the cannelured bullets, and just iron out the bell, otherwise. |
I use all Lee dies. The 30 luger die performs exactly as wanted with no problems.
