BYF41 Serial Number 2
I have a black widow with all components displaying only the number 2. What gives?
|
What is the Serial no with suffix letter...usually the last 2 digits of the Serial no. are displayed on most parts....

I have looked all over the gun and under the barrel the number is directly in the center. The side of the receiver also has the number 2 dead center. The clip says 3002 but I do not know if it is original to the gun. The underside of the barrel has the lettering e81.
quote:
Originally posted by kidvett:

I can only find the number 2 dead center on every component. the clip says 3002 but i do not know that it is original. The underside of the barrell says e81. The front of the receiver has the number 2 with a different type of wings than the normal straight type.

Charles, a Droop Eagle-over-2 is a Krieghoff Proof Mark. It sounds like some photos are in order. The barrel mark you call as e81, could it be 8,81 instead. This is usually found on the bottom of the barrel and indicated the bore diameter (diameter across the lands) in millimeters.

Just out of curiousity, I thought that the droop eagle 2 mark was a Luftwaffe acceptance stamp rather than a Krieghoff proof. Am I wrong?
I had a Browning 1922 rig with an eagle 2 stamp on the drop holster. Mind you, now that I think about it the holster was marked with the Krieghoff HK/sword and anchor mark anyway. |
Kidvett, I will take some Pics tonight and post them. There are no signs of any prefixes on this gun. The number 2 on the front side frame is above the eagle with drooped wings.
All side frame numbers are 655. The clip I do not believe is original to the gun though it is a bit coincidental that the clip is 3002. Is there anywhere else on the gun that a full SN3 may exist? The seller told me that the number is correct, being # 2. I am baffled as my other BYF41 has a normal 4-digit serial number, however this other pistl does not incorporate the bakelite grips. |
CFOWLER,
Below are the receiver proofs found on Kireghoff pistols. Eagle over 2 proof present. 2nd PIC shows the underside of that same Krieghoff, showing the 8.82 bore diameter ( numbers are larger that Mauser's pistols ) hope this helps kidvett  http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/Kriegproofs.jpg http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/Kriegbbl882.jpg |
cfowler,
Where are you in Virginia? you can reply by Private message if you would rather not put this information in a public post. |
Fowler, It's very possible that you have a late production 41BYF with serial #2 that falls in the no suffix letter block. The E/655 acceptance would be correct for this range (upto about 1000ns, according to Still's 3rd Reich Lugers page 66). Tom H.

What is the number on the INSIDE of the sideplate?
Regards, Steve |
Good Question SteveM... If there is a number on the inside of the sideplate, that should tell us a lot!
