1920

I just bought a 1920 stamped 9mm DMW commercial in 90-95 percent no pits or rust

Iam a newbie to Lugers. It has an after market magazine.
Did the original have a wooden or aluminum bottom?? I would like to replace it.

Serial. Is 9949a was it made in 1920??
Numbers match from what I can see

Oh also it has a silver name plaque on the front grip
Need to find out who D. F. Carey is or was
Thanks

1920 could be a date or it could be a Weimar property stamp. Your serial number indicates military or police issue but without clear, sharp and detailed pictures it isn't possible to tell you anything for certain.

A DWM should typically have a wood bottom unnumbered magazine if it's a commercial. But... by 1920, 9mm was generally forbidden by the Versailles commission - so it's hard to say much without good sharp images. As mentioned 1920 could be a date or it could be a Wiemar property marking.
