My first Luger
 

First post!

I was recently visiting family and my uncle said he knew a guy that wanted to sell a Luger. I jumped at the opportunity. I don’t know much about it though. Paid 2k for it with 2 mags the holster and a drum mag. It was full of grease when I got it. Brought it home and cleaned it up. Fired a couple of rounds and it seems all good. Looks to be all numbers matching save the mags. Any info on it would be appreciated. Seems odd to have the black plastic grips on a 1936 with a 42 holster. I’m thinking it may have been reissued?

Nice! If you do nothing else..get some lanolin on the hinge of your new holster. It is so dry it will stark cracking with any use.

You buy a Lotto Ticket Yet?

Well my uncle has a pretty decent arms collection so I trusted him. Only weapon I’ve ever bought sight unseen though. I’m happy to hear I did well. I’ve wanted one for a while but the diversity of options and only being available over internet kept me on the sidelines. Never thought I’d have one like this. Got a little bit of the story on it yesterday.

The man I got it from was the son of a pilot who was flying back and forth to Europe after the war. Apparently he has quite a collection that dad brought back.

I started looking through the faq, and noticed my firing pin is not marked. Does this indicate a replacement?

The factory installed firing pin for this pistol should have flute cuts and have the last two numeric digits of the pistol's serial number and acceptance markings.

What does your pin look like?

In ref to the grips - if grips were cracked or broken, an armorer would simply put on spares he had.

Or a GI liked how they looked - during or after the war :)

Nice first rig. On the grips......you may be able to find some proper wood grips and sell the plastic ones to someone with a 41 or 42 BYF.

If they are real bakelite you could get decent money for them.

Great start into the Luger field of collecting. Much better then my 1st Luger purchase, which was a mismatch commercial, with parts from 3 different guns.
