Odd Marking Question

I recently picked up a 1911 Erfurt (profiled earlier in this Forum) with strange marks on the sideplate and right receiver.

As I was examining my Vickers this morning, I looked at a strange marking under the barrel, which I had noted before, and suddenly realized that it was the same mark as the Erfurt sideplate. There is a Vickers illustrated on page 135 of "The Dutch Luger" by Martens and de Vries with the same marking.

Neither Costanzo nor Martens & de Vries mention this mark.

I'd really like to know if anybody can identify this mark.

Mark, I guess that I should just say that I don't know what the "infinity symbol" marking is, as I've never run into this before. I doubt that it's an official German marking, so my best WAG would be, possibly a Dutch inspector's rework mark or that of a later gunsmith. Th

Hi,

Neither 'The Dutch Luger' nor the British proof mark references I have show this mark.

I have seen it before and it may well be of Belgian origin.

Belgians had access to WW1 weapons as well as to the Dutch Vickers contract lugers, that were reworked by FN prior to shipment to the Dutch colonies.

Gerben,

Where have you seen it before??

Dwight,

That's the problem, I can't remember....But it had something to do with inspector's codes. Will fiddle through my documentation once again.
