Help identifying my luger.

A couple of years back i recieved a deactivated Luger as a present. I have always showed interest in the pistol, but not known to much about it in detail. I would appreciate your help identifying it. It is a frankenstein, part 1920 and part BYF. The side there is 3 eagels(?) with something underneath them. Under the barrel, in addtion to serial number, there is what appears to be an a, and 8,82. Ended up in Norway during the war.

Welcome to the forum! The a is a suffix letter, part of the serial number. The 8,82 is the internal diameter of the barrel, land to land, in millimeters.

Your 1920 dated PO8 appears to be Weimar era production for a Police contract, receiver and side plate drilled for Police sear safety. I wonder if one were to remove the weld from the TD lever, that you could at least disassemble it to salvage some reusable part (ie the Mauser byf toggle assy). Good luck, TH

Ouch! That weld photo caused me to cringe in pain. As it is, it's a limited value, paper weight and apparent evidence of gun hating regulations. So sad. Follow the advice above and "free" the good parts.

Norwegian gun laws are kinda hars on the old lugers i'm affraid, not that it is impossible to legally own one, but it means a lot have gotten deactivated like this one has. In Norway, in its condition, it is still worth around 500 USD as a collectible- believe it or not. A usable Luger is around the same price, depending on quality- but it is a bit of a hassle to get a pistol-license. So was really just wondering about its history/markings haha. But thanks for the tips and comments.

The magazine is a post war Mauser Parabellum magazine, 1970s vintage.

Yes, and they're desirable, too. If you're not going to fire the pistol eventually, you might consider selling the mag to recoup some of your investment, and replace it with another less pricey one, if the gun is just for show.

Its a luger - you can't beat that - shame its deactivated, but we live with what world we live in :)

There is a very active collector from Norway on the Walther P.38 forum I belong to. Asle has a large number of operating handguns, including those in 9mm caliber.

There are also sports shooting licenses available, correct?

If you have an interest in these fine firearms, why not work toward getting a license and help stop destruction of these pieces of history. That history is especially close in Norway after the German occupation and the successful MilOrg heros you have lived among.
