What proofs are these?
http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/alexproofs.jpg
Well I took the plunge and bought the Luger today. I am in the process of stripping and cleaning it. Will give more detail as I progress. I took this quick pic of the proofs. They are similar, but not quite the same to the ones shown in the Technical Information Section of this site. Can anyone provide me with further info on them? Thank you in advance. Alex |
Imperial DWM proofs...
|
The first three are inspection stamps, perhaps three different inspectors at the plant but definitely at three different production stages. The fourth is a final acceptance stamp--same stamp as appears on the barrel and is a test proof. None of the stamps in the photo are proofs, by the way. All four are inspection approval stamps. That is my understanding.

Those have been documented as being on 1913 & 1914 DWM Lugers. What is the chamber date and toggle code on yours? anything interesting on the barrel?

If you go to the thread started by Alex called "What grade of sandpaper......", there's more information including the unreal price he paid for it... $175! Seemingly all matching and in 85% condition. The bad news is it doesn't have a mag with it. |
Doubs, thanks and oops, I missed all that other thread!
|
The far right hand stamp is the firing proof and is found on the receiver, barrel and breech block.

Thats it Alex, just the one photo ? COme on we been waiting and arguing over this topic for a while now, give us a few more lol, ESU.
Remember 9-11 ! |
ESU,
This has all been a ploy to sell a pistol. The old gun traders in the hills know how to whet an appetite for an item. 1st rule is to play dumb. Then make everyone decide that you don't deserve to own such a fine handgun because you did not pay enough for it. Not enough financial suffering. Next tease and flatter the unsuspecting with rare glimpses of the gun and ask for advice or information. Man, this gets the prospective buyer whipped up into a frenzy! I would suspect that alex has already sold the pistol by private post to one of our gullible number. Garfield had him spotted. Think about it. This was posted in the Military P08 section. Title was "Advice on Luger purchase requested". And the description was made by someone who knew how to describe a Luger:
Make: DWM Barrel: 4" Calibre: 9mm Condition: Not sure, will know when I see it, however the seller states that it is "original finish/condition", not reblued. Bore: Unknown Serial #: I did know enough to ask if it was matching and he confirmed all numbers match except...magazine is missing.

And then, he asks us what 'SANDPAPER' to use to ruin the pistol. HOOK, LINE, & SINKER! |
You sure Wes? Man I hope not.
|
Dear Sirs, I put the "sandpaper" reference in my title to add a bit of humor, I apologize if it was misconstrued.
Regards, Alex |

Wes was just having a little fun teasing everyone. No one belives your ultimate purpose was to sell the pistol. (Of course, if I'm wrong....... send me a private e-mail!) |
