DWM 30 Luger

This is a great shooter and very accurate. All matching numbers except magazine which I use Mecgar. I am frustrated with the ejection of spent brass. New 30 Luger brass is fairly expensive, so I need to pick up all my brass. The brass is ejected quite strongly throwing the brass at least 20 feet behind me to my right. Is it possible to tame the ejection of brass? Or do I have to suffer losing 20% of it.

Spread an 8x10 ft tarp about 20 feet behind you- a little to the right. ;)

Not much you can do about the ejection, but since you reload- perhaps a little lighter load would
shorten the distance a little?

Just thinking out loud here, but could a guy take a new injector and carefully fit and file the working Edge to adjust the throw of the empty cases? Also if you install a new wolf spring, or something slightly stronger were used, would that somewhat reduce the trajectory and distance of the empty cases being thrown?

The whole ejector is hardened spring steel and I certainly wouldn't advise altering it in any manner.

Changing the recoil spring with a new Wolff spring might - or might not - lessen the distance the empty cases are thrown. It would depend upon the strength of the new spring and if it reduced the speed of the bolt/toggle train as it recoiled; i.e., a stronger spring than is currently in the gun.

The FAQ lists a range of recoil spring strengths that were used in a variety of Luger models. It's defined by wire size and number of turns.

Hey, at least it ejects to the rear, my Nambu with its unobtainium brass ejects merrily to the FRONT!

Losing a % of the brass shot in a well functioning P08 Luger seems to be the "price of doing business"!! Losing 9mm brass is no biggy, but 30 Luger brass is another thing altogether. :(

You can buy cases of Prvi ammo for $379 and $16 shipping from SGAmmo.

At less than $.40 per loaded round just relax and let 'em fly!

A .30 Parabellum throwing brass that far would make me question if the mainspring is too weak. A too-weak mainspring can potentially cause damage to the pistol. I suggest the "tape test" and agree with the advice to consider experimenting with a heavier main spring or lighter load.

My Lugers in .30 caliber like 5.0 grains of CFE Pistol powder behind bullets between 85 & 90 grains.

Cases are tossed 4 - 8 feet with most 6 feet or less. It's proven to be an accurate, reliable load.
