Trommel magazine loader, genuine ?
 

Good evening gents, Ive been reading a lot of material about these loaders, and managed to confuse myself a bit.. realized that I could use some expert help to determine if my loader is a repro, or the real Bing loader. Im assuming that the name done with electric pencil has nothing to do with authenticity. Also, it looks to me like a partial crown s at the bottom ? Any information would be appreciated.

Looks like the real deal to me, although it may have been refinished. Hard to tell from your photos,

Remove the front pivot screw. It should only be threaded a few turns on the tip.

Not normal. I wouldn't call it original. This also confirms what I don't like about the seam under the handle. It's too wide and clean. No welds. Just not of the period IMO.

Thank you very much, Mr. Burney. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Not that it makes a difference, but welds can be seen inside the handle. The entire loader has been heavily buffed and blued at some point. That may not be obvious in my photos.

Smokey..These can tough to actually pin down but the under the handle seam is a good place to look. Apparently originals were made with a rolled tube hence the seam and welds. The seam is tight enough to prevent a piece of paper being inserted. The welds were fairly evident. Buffing and rebluing an original would not do value any favors to be sure. So even IF this were an original..it would not be more desirable than a good repro IMO. But a guy needs some sort of loader to load drums..an original in excellent shape might run $1200 and a repro a LOT less.

I recently sold mine with seam for $1600~
