DWM1774 /C suffix, crowned proofmark; Dutch Navy or German?
 

My Luger has a Dutch (Indies/Navy?) history but looks German. It has DWM on the toggle, with a rear white "gesichert" and red dotted thumb safety and not repeat not a "rust" with an arrow, without a grip safety, with a stock lug, caliber 9 mm, all 74 number markings matching, 1774 and 8.83 (German military service) on bottom of 4" (thank you Stu) barrel, 1774 on front frame with suffix "/C" ,two unreadable proofmarks with a single flat crown, thus DWM delivery, "geladen" on left edge of extractor, a 1 cm large 9 on the grip. It seems thus to be except for the "gesichert" in stead of "rust" and a DWM proofmark instead of a Mauser proofmark a DWM/Mauser Dutch Navy Luger from 1930 or is it a German Luger or reproduction? Hi Louis. It's certainly a genuine gun [img]wink.gif[/img] As to dating it; I'm sure the experienced members will be along to help shortly. Do you believe that there was a date on the chamber and that it's been ground off ?

I can say that the 8.83 on the barrel is the distance in mm between the lands of the rifling, not the length of the barrel, so you might want to get the tape measure out.
