1906 safety rework

Is this a rework of the safety or not? I just cannot tell for sure, maybe some of you more advanced collectors can. Thanks

Hi Tom,
The Gesichert marking of the 1st Issue guns was removed either by milling or else, like yours, grinding down a wide area. They never reblued the bare metal in either case, lack of time I guess.

Does anyone know how was this accomplished? I know some were milled out leaving an oval shaped "slot", others appear ground out, but the ground area is still on the same level as the upper area, and you can still see the original milling circles above. Were the letters welded over then ground smooth? If the letters were just ground out there would be an area where the metal was lower than rest.

Hard to tell, but the lower area looks "lower" to me; if you were to remove the thumb lever, you might be able to determine the answer.

Done. Lower appears as flat as the upper, no discernable difference other than lighter appearance. It had to have metal added in some fashion, and then removed. Someone clearly did a professional job.
