Bought my first Luger
 

I bought my first Luger yesterday. 1918 DWM numbers matching (from what I can see from the dealer's listing). Once I retrieve it, how far should I strip it, and are there any recommended videos about doing that? I'll post some good pictures once it is in hand.

Tons of videos for field and detail stripping on YouTube... Field stripping yields all the numbers you'd need to see.

Just a word of caution during your disassembly.....be VERY careful in removing the LEFT grip, for it is very easy to break off a piece.

I have one (not so great) picture on my phone, but adding a picture requires a url. I do not know how or where I can get a url from a phone picture without paying for an image hosting site.

I'll have plenty more pictures when I go to retrieve it Saturday. Its definitely a shooter, but that's what I wanted.

Well, welcome and congrats on your first Luger. I say first because they have a tendency to multiple. You can't have just one. As mentioned above read/study the FAQ section as contains so much info. After you read it then if you have questions ask away. There are so many helpful folks on this forum that will be glad to help. Be sure to report your range experience.

I guarantee they'll multiply like drunken rabbits. I'm having to wait a few more days to pick up due to an emergency, but I can't wait to get it.

They are Imperial proof/acceptance marks.

Well, I've got the Luger. All numbers matching (besides the magazine) 1918 DWM. Strawed parts have all aged to almost black, and I'd say 85% or better of the bluing is intact along with a great bore. No million dollar chip either. As for the bad, there is surface pitting in a few places on the cannon assembly (I think that's the term I've heard used). Nothing deep, but it is present. And is there a thread to try and reunite magazines with their original numbered pistols? It'd be a longshot, but I'd love to find even one of the originals for mine.
