p08?
|
Ja wohl. Stimmt kein P38.
|
Yup..... it's a P-08. Only someone unfamiliar with German handguns would mistake that for a P-38.
|
Africa basket's?
Jim |
Ha! I didn't catch that! Thanks Jim. What a hoot!
|
"Jaja, ein Walther Null Acht, you know...those Schmeissers." :)
Hehehehe.... Nice to know there are no geographical or ethnic borders on the pitifully uninformed. |
Don't feel too bad Ron. That is a very blurry picture.

I caught the P08, it is the "Afrikakorbs" (Africa baskets!) I missed! :D

I had to look real close at the gun to see a Luger. But I am still recovering from the blackout that we had here. Lots of rain and humidity and no air conditioning.

Hello friends,
are you joking, when you translate "Afrikacorps" as "Africa Basket"? Unfortunately I am not so familiar with your language. As far as I know the word "corps", originating from french, describes a bigger military unit, so they called all the German troops send to Africa during WWII the "Afrikacorps". The pronunciation in German is simply "kor". Kind regards from Germany, Peter |
Hi Peter,
If you look at the e-bay listing again, you'll see that it says "Afrikakorbs". Not only did I miss the spelling but I wouldn't have caught the joke until it was explained. It is rather funny. |
Hi Walker,
your are really right, the headline in the ebaylisting says "Afrikakorbs" but this is wrong spelling. "Graben" means "trench" and "stellung" can be translated as "defence post". So the entire headline has the meaning "trench defence post of the Africacorps pistol P38" which is obviously partly wrong as discussed already. Please excuse my poor wording but I did not serve neither in the German nor in any other Army. regards Peter |

I only wish that my German was half as good! My German is horribly poor! I know enough to order food, a bier and read the train and bus schedules and road signs. That's not nearly as proficient as your skill in English. |
Thanks Walker,
I always try my very best. Would be very nice if we could have a beer sometimes somewhere. Peter |

Where in Germany do you call home? Over the years I've been to a few places in your beautiful country and even had the E. Leitz factory in Wetzlar overhaul two older Leica cameras for me. I hand carried the cameras to the factory. That was over 30 years ago and I still have both cameras. |
