Post Production Luger Testing~
When assembly is complete, what inspection process and possible fireing is required? How many rounds if any? The British call it "proofed" Eric
|
Lugers had to successfully complete a proof cartridge firing and final inspection by a military contract inspector. The final inspection, proof firing and acceptance stamps are the ones on the barrel, breech block and right front of the receiver.
Inspection was carried out first by factory workers as parts were made, then the complete gun was evaluated. They were also tested for firing accuracy. These tasks were done at Oberndorf for Mauser made Lugers. They had a special "shoot house" that was across the river from the lower works factory (Building "C" and "D"). The Sturgess book on Lugers discusses the process in detail. See the book at page 436. |
