Can you guys please help me understand what type of magazines I have here?

It is marked 5442 and what looks like an f along with wings over 63. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...se3h8n99w.jpeg https://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c...se3h8n99w.jpeg Thanks for your help. I have s/42 g date 4870 f and a byf 42 2838 L |
Both your bakelite bottom FXO and unnumbered aluminum bottom FXO magazines (made by Haneal Schmeisser) are apropriate for later "42" date Mauser made Lugers. These are made by welding and milling steel, and are some of the best running Luger magazines.
Your nickle plated sheet steel aluminum based magazine would be appropriate for the period of your "G" date Luger. I believe we have more background information in the Lugerforum FAQ PDF document. Download a copy. |
Em, A photo of the markings on the bottom of your G date mag would be helpful in order to authenticate. I agree that the tube for this one should be nickel plated, but judging from your photo, I would say that this one has the earlier TIN plating. TH

I really appreciate it. |
I always associate the black plastic magazine bottoms with 1941 and 1942, but to the best of my knowledge there was no hard break when aluminum suddenly ceased. Kind of like black plastic grips...
