Sold my Luger 25 years ago.
 

About quarter century back I sold off my 9mm Luger to make
ends meets. Never really knew much about it, byf and 42 stamped.
Sold it to a collector for $400 after 10 years of ownership.
Very presentable and pretty accurate, we would shoot tennis balls at 25yds. Always
a great shooter and not ammo fussy at all.

Well a few months back I decided to get another luger, sticker shock for sure,
looks like $1500 or more to get something I'd like to own. So I figured what
better place to learn than a Luger forum.

I did actually get a new old stock Stoeger .22 Luger from 1974, I like it a lot
hundreds of rounds through it and haven't had a hiccup. Original price $34.95!

That's my story, I'm sure I'll be asking questions that have been
posted before so bear with me, many thanks in advance.

Welcome back. On the re-entry admission ticket price, it depends on what you want and your knowledge, patience and willingness or not to spend effort searching. Solid shooters can be had for as low as $750, quality collectibles $1,100 or so. We also see people paying 50%-100% more than those figures for equivalent pistols, so a pretty wide range. Be sure to read the FAQ and search the forums for threads on where/how to look, variants that interest you etc.

Bill, welcome to the forum. I found an excellent performing, shooter grade over a year ago for $800. Since they I have seen several in that range. In some ways I enjoy it more than my collector grade ones ...because I get to actually shoot it. Just be patient in your search for the right on for you.

They are many eager folks ready to answer your questions. There are many experts here (I'm not one).

Well I've read thru the FAQ's and dozens of threads, I'm thinking if I had to choose
a specific model it would be a .30 Swiss w/ 4/34 barrel. However a 9mm makes a
lot more sense because ammo is available nearly everywhere with plenty of choices.
Not really in any hurry as I have a few other choices in the safe.
