Opinions on this gun?

It even has the "ever cherished" Franzite grips!

No interest from me. Poor finish, replaced "Franzite" grips, rebarrelled and no guarantee it's matching. The seller won't even dissemble to check. The quote applies "plenty more fish in the sea".

I think it is a luger! ;) Maybe a good shooter, but about what it is worth. JMHO.

I'd like to have a set of Franzite grips- well I do have a set or two, but the plastic has shrunk till they are 1/4" too short! You can see in the picture that these are beginning to pull away at the bottom also.

The replaced barrel, receiver cut, and 'a' block serial number suggest this was an arty. None of the photos show the back of the toggle, perhaps hiding the lack of a rear sight? Could be a nice shooter at $700. plus a set of dies.

I didn't think the price was bad at all, but possible missing rear sight concerns me! Thanx.

Photo # 4 shows rear sight on toggle. "a" suffix has no relevance as 1917 Artilleries were interspersed with regular production P08s and can be found with most suffix letters.

If one could acquire it for that price, or slightly more, it seems reasonable for a good 30 Luger shooter. I had less than stellar performance from my 30 Luger Lee dies, but perhaps it is just my set of dies. They are currently in a box somewhere.

Seller added a couple of good pix of the rear of the toggle at my request. Sight's definitely there!

Z, if you like it, jump on that sucker......tom

IMO it is difficult to find a cosmetically decent, properly-functioning Luger for less than $800. If I wanted a .30 shooter like this, I'd probably pay up to $800 or so, maybe a little more, for this example. That it is all matching except for the barrel is nice. Seller has feedback quantity and there's a 3-day inspection, so if you want this type of pistol I'd say this is worth bidding on.

That was exactly my thoughts - despite the general opinion here that prices that low are a dime a dozen; most Lugers in that condition are north of $1K. We'll see if there's a flurry of activity on it at the end of the auction.

One must be quick and a little lucky to buy a decent one for $800.
The parts will sell for more than that if auctioned piecemeal. JMHO ;)

I've been watching that one for a little while, its been relisted at least once. Kinda want, kinda need to control spending.

A mismatched gun is still worth the sum of the parts, and this is probably why people bid so high on them. The Franzite grips and a .30 barrel won't bring much though.

Seems like there's not much love for the .30 commercials, so I would rather add a few hundred and get a nicer one while they're still affordable. Something like this is a much better deal IMO:

For almost $500 more, it should be nicer - and it is. But not $500 nicer (to me).

4 Scale 12-16-2018 02:31 PM

Sold for $730 - someone got a solid bargain.

rhuff 12-16-2018 03:02 PM

Perhaps it was Zorba!!

Zorba 12-16-2018 04:13 PM

Nope, wasn't me. I decided to back off from it - partially because online auctions make me go "meh".
